At the age of 8 years and up, our course takers have opportunity to prepare themselves for taking one of several internationally acknowledged exams. Those are Cambridge exams which we organize in cooperation with British council from Sarajevo. For which of those exams the attendant will prepare himself depends on already acquired knowledge and of course on his interests.
The Agency organizes specialized courses which prepare you for taking Cambridge exams. They are taken in organization of British council in some of registered testing centers. One of those centers is situated in Trebinje and is administrated by our Agency. Examiners are professors who acquired license of Cambridge University for carrying out the examining activity.
Students who pass with success some or all these exams have by far bigger possibilities and privileges when entering some faculties. Also, they have opportunity to study in some foreign country at some international college, more chance to find a job and easier pass on interviews for getting a job in the country, as well as abroad. Preparations for these exams are pretty hard and exhaustive. One course lasts for at least one school year with two lessons of one hour and a half weekly. During the course students are developing all four skills: writing, reading, listening and speaking through a big number of interesting topics and a big number of the exercises for memorizing of vocabulary and grammar units.
Cambridge exams for the youngest are designed to offer comprehensive access to testing of language knowledge of students from 7 to 12. Being like that they represent preparatory steps for taking some progressive exams, like KET and PET which are adapted to some older age. These tests cover relevant areas and specific needs of takers.
Basic levels are:
Cambridge Starters is the lowest level and it is designed for the children of 7 who completed approximately 100 hours of English learning.
This is the second level in the series. The children who take it are usually between 8 and 11 years old and listened about 175 hours.
Flyers candidates are usually between 9 and 12 years old and listened about 250 hours of English.
We point out that these age limits are not strict and that variations are possible.
KET (Key English Test)
This course, that is exam, offers basic qualification in English and represents the first step for those who want to progress towards Cambridge level 2, that is Preliminary English Test (PET) and the rest of the Cambridge exams that are stated in the scheme. KET is defined as half of the way towards PET exam and its taking is suggested to the students who completed 180-200 hours of English language under the surveillance of professor. This exam includes four areas: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
PET (Preliminary English Test)
This exam in fact, as its name implies, psychically and conceptually prepares candidates for those next ones, whose certificates have solid value. PET is usually taken by the children who are 15-16 years old and who have low-intermediate level of knowledge. It is usually very successful and nice experience for little course takers who in that course become familiar with the atmosphere and difficulty of taking such an important international exam. PET certificate is great psychological preparation for the candidates who intend to take some of the more progressive levels.
FCE (First Certificate Exam)
This is upper- intermediate level. FCE exam is more difficult than PET because it actually skips middle level, that means that preparation for it is more substantial, exhaustive and hard. As part of this course, a lot of additional material is added to the students in order to gain certainty, self confidence, fluency in speaking, as well as in writing. Their task is always outlined and has appropriate strategy, so that the teaching itself in the last phase of the preparations for the exam becomes physical as well as psychical training.
The dates of taking this exam in the whole world are the same and it usually lasts for two days. The first day is very hard and all candidates access to written part of the exam (Reading, Writing, Use of English), and the next day are Listening and Speaking exam. Results are approximately waited for two or three months because all of the works of the candidates from the whole world are sent to correction in London, and then they are computer analyzed. Information about the results of the exams is sent to the address of the school which apply them for the exam, or to their home address if the individuals apply for the exam themselves.
.
CAE (Certificate in Advanced English)
This exam is in the class of the most important and the most difficult Cambridge exams. Candidates who get certificate for this level of knowledge and pass it with high mark (A or B) can slowly enter translating and even give English lessons.
CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)
This is about detailed and exhaustive studying of language and its structures and fines which make English new and more interesting. All those who successfully passed through FCE and CAE can expect the work on this last level to be harder, more demanding and that much patience and sacrifice will be needed. All that effort will not be useless and the result will be solid.
